The chess box is dovetailed and over veneered with Brazilian Mahogany. The marquetry has been created using Burr Ash, Boxwood and Macassar Ebony. Acid catalyst lacquer has been used to polish the box.

Internal cradle linings have been formed using velvet to support the silver king and queen mills.
